Carissa Batiller

Coach Carissa at the 2008 Nike Human Race when she first started CrossFit. Then, the 2009 Nike Human Race, after a year of CrossFit. CrossFit is the fountain of youth!
Carissa is a CrossFit Level I Coach and is CrossFit Movement and Mobility Certified. Carissa was never an athlete. In fact, for most of her life she had engaged in some really bad habits, was unhealthy and generally unfit. So, if that’s where you currently are in life, she understands. And, more importantly, she knows that with CrossFit, you can change. She considers CrossFit to be her fountain of youth because she is healthier, stronger and fitter now in her forties than when she was in her teens. She truly believes that it’s never too late to get fit and discover abilities you thought you never had, especially as a woman. She believes that CrossFit changes your body, but more importantly, it changes your mind. When she is not at the box coaching, she is busy studying for nursing school. She is most proud of her son, Christian and daughter, Charisse, who are both CrossFit coaches spreading the CrossFit “love.”

Charisse Aguirre

Coach Charisse is happiest when she is moving...whether she's dancing, rockclimbing, flipping tires or practicing the snatch.
Charisse is a CrossFit Level I Coach and CrossFit Gymnastics Certified. CrossFit has made her physically stronger yet more importantly mentally stronger. She is eternally grateful to CrossFit and her family’s participation in it. CrossFit has conditioned her to get over the initial fear and anxiety of what is to come, whether it’s waiting for the announcement of the WOD, or even a final at school. She “takes a deep breath and goes” and can handle anything that life throws at her.
Her athletic background started at the age of 5. She competed in State-wide competition for gymnastics and placed 5th in the state at the age of nine. She later pursued another passion — dance — at a performing arts high school. She is currently a student at the UCLA where she is a World Arts and Cultures major with emphasis on dance. She’s also a trainer at the John Wooden Center at UCLA where she utilizes the CrossFit methodology (Go Bruins!) During the school week, she run’s the Intense Functional Training classes, the Barbell Technique classes, attends lecture, dance rehersals, and completes her homework all while representing the CrossFit lifestyle/mentality. On the weekends she is back home at Crossfit Proper ready to coach!

Rich Smith
Rich is a Level 1 Certified Crossfit trainer. After 10+ years of practicing, competing, and coaching in wrestling and other martial arts, Rich was looking for something that would push both his physical and mental limits. He was introduced to Crossfit Proper and was instantly hooked. Rich has always competed in what are considered individual sports. Proper showed him the power of a true team, and what it can achieve. It showed him that anything is possible when you have a family behind you, to support you and lift you up. Crossfit became a reason for him to eat better, sleep better, and in general live better. Rich is passionate about coaching, and helping his team discover what they can achieve. He also enjoys the time he gets to spend working out with his Dad and Crossfit Family!

Amber Avila
Amber is a Level 1 CrossFit instructor. She is new to the Proper coach team and is very enthusiastic about helping others reach their goals. She describes herself as an ordinary, girl next door with no athletic background. So you might ask, Why CrossFit? Because her husband introduced her to a program that could get her fit in less than 20 minutes a day while the kids napped
However, in 2008 she was hooked and realized CrossFit was more than just a phenomenal fitness program, but a life changing experience. Amber is living proof that anyone with a dedicated heart can achieve their fitness goals in CrossFit. Ambers best advice to other CrossFitters is to enjoy the competition, but focus on you and your personal goals!

Mike Breyer
Mike is a Level 1 Certified CrossFit trainer. He was a high school football player and his love for the game eventually led to a career in coaching. After coaching for three years at Riverside Poly High School he had the opportunity to move into collegiate athletics and coach wide receivers at Riverside Community College. After coming back to Poly to coach football he was looking for a change in his life. He was overweight, out of shape, generally unhappy, and after a lifetime of athletic involvement was embarrassed at the direction his physical condition was going. After a fellow teacher and coach raved about this place called CrossFit Proper, he had to give it a try. Immediately he knew it was different, loved the competitive but friendly atmosphere, and was hooked. He loved it so much he brought his wife Katie into the gym and they have become a part of the Proper family. Since becoming a member his lifestyle has completely changed becoming incredibly active with a focus on his fitness, represented Proper as a competitor in a number of CrossFit competition, and even judged at the 2011 So Cal Regionals.
As a professional educator his focus is creating lifelong learners and encouraging people to achieve something they once thought was impossible.
